Choosing Energy Saving Appliances For Home

Choosing energy saving appliances over less efficient alternatives is a smart choice – especially considering the amount of money they will help you to save on your utility bills in the long run. If you are one of the many who are looking to save money this year through reductions in your utility bills, then purchasing some more efficient appliances is definitely a good choice. There are many different devices that you can take advantage of in your conservation efforts. Things such as fans, heaters, air conditioners, lamps, or even light bulbs can be much more efficient if they are labeled as energy saving appliances.

Light Bulbs
Changing your light bulbs from incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) is one of the most cost effective choices you can make. CFL's use roughly 75% less power than incandescent bulbs and they produce roughly 75% less heat as well. Therefore, CFL bulbs would be a great choice if you are looking to reduce your utility bills through reductions in both your power consumption rates and your cooling costs.

Fans
Fans are also one of the most cost effective energy saving appliances and they can be beneficial at various times throughout the year. As we all know, hot air rises. Therefore, during the winter months run your ceiling fans in their forward rotation. This will help it to push the warmer air back down towards the floor. During the summer months, run your fans in their reverse setting so that it will do just the opposite and help pull warm air upwards while pushing the cooler air down along the walls of your room. This is especially beneficial if you have high ceilings. However, if your ceilings are not so high, you may be more comfortable simply running the fan in the normal position and get the cooling effect of the breeze hitting your skin.

If it’s not too hot outside, try opening a few windows and let your fans circulate air throughout your home instead of running your heating your cooling system. This will definitely save you some extra money on your utility bills! As far as energy saving appliances go, fans are among the smartest purchases you can make as on average they only use about as much power as a 100 watt light bulb or less when running at their highest setting.

Refrigerators
An energy saving refrigerator will most definitely help you to reduce your utility bills. Refrigerators use the most power out of all of our appliances in our homes as they are constantly left running all year long to keep their contents fresh. Replacing your old refrigerator with a power saving model can help you to save as much as 20% or possibly even more on your utility bills.

If you were to employ all of these tips and replace all of your fans, light bulbs, refrigerators, and other things around your home with energy saving appliances, you will notice some drastic changes in your utility bills that are in your own favor.
