MXenergy Wizard Frequently Asked Questions about Michigan Energy Audits.

Q: What are the program eligibility requirements?

A: To be eligible for this program, MichCon must be your primary heating fuel distributor, OR you must have all electric heat with Detroit Edison as your primary energy distributor.

Q: Will I automatically be switched to a different electric or gas supplier?

A: No. Your choice of electric or gas supplier is not changed by having an home energy audit completed using MXenergy Wizard.

Q: Do I have to be present when the audit is performed?

A: The person who called and signed up is preferable, but someone 18 and over that you designate can be present in your place.

Q: How do I prepare for my home energy audit with MXenergy Wizard?

A: The following steps will help you prepare for your MXenergy Wizard home energy audit Advance preparation:

  • Gather the past one year of your energy usage (typically found on your utility bills available upon request from your utility) including natural gas and/or electricity plus any other fuel expenses such as propane, heating oil or organics

    Make a simple list:

  • Drafty rooms that are uncomfortable (too hot or cold)
  • Areas that might contain asbestos or lead
  • Locations where moisture is a problem
  • Ensure all areas of your home are accessible including attics/crawlspaces and remove any obstructions around the water heater(s), air conditioner(s), and furnace(s)
  • Clear all ashes or debris from the fireplace(s)

    On the day of the energy audit:

  • Close and lock all windows and exterior doors
  • Close fireplace dampers and doors, if applicable
  • Close wood stove air intakes, if applicable
  • Uncover all vents, registers and ducts
  • Pet arrangements

Q: Can an audit be done for my apartment?

A: No, single apartment units are not included in the home energy audit program.

Q: Can I tell my friends and neighbors about this program?

A: Yes
